Thirty years ago, David Trubridge sold his belongings and undertook a sailing voyage across the globe, seeking design inspiration in natural materials. The results have led to one of the most refreshing takes on modern lighting today, showcasing incredible designs born from earthy inspiration and made with sustainable materials.
David Trubridge found inspiration for Navicula in the underwater universe of Diatoms which are the base of the entire oceanic food chain. They take more carbon out of the atmosphere than all the world’s tropical rainforests. Through photosynthesis they liberate enough oxygen for our every fifth breath.
Navicula, by being derived from nature, highlights the environmental philosophy and commitment of David Trubridge, while being itself an illuminating masterpiece with a sense of frozen movement. The thin curved pieces of CNC-cut bamboo plywood create a flowing skeletal structure that also casts magical patterns.
This lighting is lit from within with a row of LED pin-point lights, and available in three sizes.
